Crieff Hydro Adventure Play build

Crieff Hydro, Perthshire

Check out that mega slide at the Crieff Hydro adventure play

Back in October 2019, we showed you some aerial views of the new adventure play in build within the Action Glen area at the wonderful Crieff Hydro Spa Hotel and resort in Perthshire, Scotland. It's been a destination for over 150 years and sits within a 900-acre estate.

The Action Glen area was developed to offer more adventurous activities for children and families of both hotel guests, locals and visitors to the wider area (it’s open to the general public too). Activities for older, more adventurous guests include quad biking, off-road Segways, and a treetop 'high ropes' course. There was however less for the younger guests to enjoy, and that's where the CAP.CO team got involved.

You can see the initial plans for the build here in this CGI image.

And when you look at the main hotel building, it all becomes clear where the inspiration came from for the design.

The new play structure is set over multi-levels and has three different slides to exit from different heights. The smaller ones are open slides and then the big one from the top is a tube slide design and super exciting. The idea is that as children develop and test their levels of acceptable 'risk' they build up the confidence to ride the bigger slide.

Within the play structures, there are plenty of fun elements. From crawl tunnels, a bungee maze, ladders, lookout towers to additional sensory play features that are within the structure. Towards the top, there are a series of convex lookout windows, that only the bravest will ever find.

To access the enormous adventure play structure, there are climbing walls with varying levels of challenge, clamber nets, ramps and ladders.

It's all been designed to offer progressive levels of challenge for all and I'm sure when they are allowed to reopen and welcome visitors, they will have huge fun exploring all the routes throughout the play. Even when they have completed all of that, there are some additional trim trail elements for them to enjoy and use up their last little bits of energy.

The weather for the build team was unusually kind, which allowed us to got some images of the build in progress.

And then a few of the whole thing nearly completed.

and then some images showing the internal details of the build, with all of the additional play elements included.

As soon as the wonderful Crieff Hydro is back up and running, we'll get some more images of the completed build and show you some of the guests enjoying the new adventure play, fully open and challenging children and adults alike.
